So, without further ado, let’s meet Chichi!

Chichi is a copywriter and beauty blogger. She writes content for a number of online magazines and publications and her blog features posts on makeup selections, beauty trends, lifestyle, fashion, and opinion pieces.

Let’s Get Started!

1. How you first got involved in blogging and copywriting?

I accidentally fell into blogging and copywriting. I started copywriting back in 2011 when I was on my gap year before university and working as a Freelance B2B Writer for a company that specializes in student news, discussions and trends. As for blogging, I stumbled across the blogging world in 2012 and I started my blogging journey in 2013. After a few years, I took a bit of a break, then I started my current blog, Chichi Writes Beauty, in October 2019.

2. What do you find most challenging about blogging about your topic?

I keep up to date with news and trends in my niche (I blog about beauty, with a particular focus on makeup), but I find it challenging to write about everything within that niche because I can’t cover everything. I work full-time and blog on the side so my time is quite limited.

3. We’re seeing a huge increase in engagement with beauty bloggers in our community. What role do you feel beauty bloggers play in the overall cosmetics industry?

Beauty bloggers bring fresh and diverse perspectives to the cosmetics industry. Traditionally, many people would have received their information on beauty from magazines and traditional media outlets, but with beauty blogs, you can find alternatives thoughts and opinions on various aspects of makeup, such as dupes, diverse collections and unpopular thoughts on over-hyped brands.

4. Tell me about some of the people you’ve met while working on your blog?

When I took a break from blogging, I also took a break from attending events and engaging with the community. I’ve been very fortunate to have met Melissa from Inside Melly’s Mind, who’s a fellow copywriter like myself and runs her own home and interiors brands, Honey Bee Home. I’ve also met Kristabel Plummer, from the lifestyle blog I Want You To Know.

5. How would (someone) describe your blogging style?

Casual and concise. I write my blog as if I’m talking to a best friend and I try not to use overcomplicated terms. I like to keep things simple.

6. How do you keep coming up with material/content for your blog? Many people struggle with coming up with different articles/posts and they only have one blog.

I always come up with ideas because I keep up to date with the current trends in the beauty industry. I do this by reading magazines, watching YouTube videos and reading other beauty blogs.

7. What’s your strategy with your blog in general?

I aim to post at least once a week and I have started to combine posts to make sure that I cover all relevant topics, and because I don’t always have the time to blog. I also make sure that my content is SEO-friendly.

8. What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog?

I would say a combination of social media networking (posts on your social media feeds and engaging in online conversations), guest posting for other websites in your niche and face-to-face networking (at press and blogger events) is effective for driving traffic to your blog and generating interest.

9. What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his/her readers?

I think the best service a blogger can provide to his or her readers is creating content that’s honest, informative, engaging and interesting.

10. What would be your ideal working environment?

I find that the best way for me to work as a blogger is to work from a desk that’s tidy and organized.

11. How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?

I’m really organized and pretty good at time management so what I do is schedule time to work on my blog. I work full-time so I normally batch-write posts on Saturdays.

12. What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog?

Social media promotion has definitely helped, as well as guest posting for similar sites with a link back to my blog. Also, keeping your blog active and consistent is a great way to increase domain authority. The higher your domain authority, the more likely to are to work on sponsored collaborations.
